It’s always been harder with girls. They are usually not willing (or their mothers are not willing) to participate regularly in open classes. Girls, on the other hand, are exposed to even more inconvenience and danger on the street. Therefore, we give them a chance to be admitted to the center right away, without much preparation. We walked the streets several times and talked to the girls or their mothers. If the children are alone, they are afraid to go anywhere or even to take us to their parents. The mothers we met usually did not want to give their children such a chance. They prefer to beg with them and have a better income.In the case of Haymanot, it was long arguments and persuasion, but it worked. The girl was begging next to her mother on the street. While her mother was sitting in the street with a small child, the girl circled, approached and extended her hand to all the people getting off the local transport. The five-year-old also has a father who does not have a permanent job and who himself agreed that his wife and children would beg on the street. Haymanot has settled in the center and no longer has to worry about whether she will eat a meal every day. She can learn, play and just be a kid.
