Patriots’ Victory Day
Today is a public holiday in Ethiopia. Everyone knows it. It amazes me how many Ethiopians don’t even know why. It’s Patriots’ Victory Day who fought for this country’s independence. Why is it designated on May 5th? On this day in 1941, Emperor Haile Selassie returned to Addis Ababa after five years of exile and thus five years of Italian occupation. At the center, we always try to celebrate such holidays so that the children know the history of their country and want to care for it themselves through education now, honest work in the future, helping each other, caring for social issues, and promoting peace, which is still lacking in many places in Ethiopia.
