I met Erdachew on the street when I was returning from the center. He approached me asking for money. So I asked him if he would like to study instead of spending time on the street. Erdachew replied that he wanted to. As I was already boarding the local means of transport, I just showed him the direction and told him to ask someone from the area where Barkot was and to come there during the open classes that would take place the next day in the morning. Honestly, I didn’t think he would show up. I didn’t really spend any time explaining or convincing him. Nevertheless, the boy smiled and somehow happily thanked me for the invitation. He actually came to the next class and has been coming regularly since then. During the indicative program, it turned out that Erdachew actually had no family to take care of him. He has a mother who has remarried and cannot live with her. Previously, someone had let him spend the night at their place, but for some time the boy had nowhere to go. That’s why we admitted him to the center. He is one of 13 children who start school in the second semester.
